ABSTRACT
Hemorrhoids is one of the many illnesses that affect a vast majority of the population worldwide. Despite the many approaches to manage the ailment, many people still suffer from it for a long period. In the clinical setting, Antihemorrhoid (e.g. Anusol) is use to manage the illness. The active ingredient in this product is Zinc sulfate monohydrate which reduces irritation in the area and acts as astringent. Even with this, and surgery as part of the treatment, a range of people are not able to obtain full cure and may end up seeking traditional cure. This study was conducted to make a survey of medicinal plants used in the treatment of hemorrhoids in Oku and also to find out whether or not the illness is treated in Oku with medicinal plants. The participants included 30 traditional practitioners and 60 people who have had hemorrhoid before and were treated in Oku. This study tried to find out whether truly hemorrhoid is successfully treated in OKU and by which herbal medicine. A cross section of traditional practitioners from Oku as well as herbalists were intentionally interviewed either through questionnaires or a one-on-one
discussion to be able to answer the above presumptions. In addition, patients who have once suffered from hemorrhoids and were successfully treated in Oku were also interviewed as such to ascertain the deliberation. Finally, “konse” and “ebfie fenuin” (English names yet to be gotten) were identify after a careful survey to be the main herbs involved in the treatment of hemorrhoids in Oku. Furthermore, the study confirms that hemorrhoids is successful treated in Oku using medicinal plants
