ABSTRACT
Tuberculosis (TB) is a common infectious disease caused by various strains of mycobacteria, mainly Mycobacterium tuberculosis in humans. It is spread through the air when people who have the disease cough, spit or sneeze. Most infections in humans result in asymptomatic, latent infection. Some latent infections eventually progress to active diseases. It kills a large number of untreated patients. The justification of the study is to determine the knowledge attitude and preventive practice of Tuberculosis in the case of adults in Galkio IDPs.
It was observed that the majority of the adults were 71.6% females of them,
were 28.4% males of them. And 30.5% were in the age group of (30- 35) years
old of them, 28.9% (20-25) years old of them, 25% were age group (15- 20) of
them, and 15.6% were age group (25-30) single, while 10.3% were divorced, and 2.3% was a widow. 64.3% of adults’ education was illiterate, 27.6% were primary, 7% were secondary, and 0.8% were university. Regarding the respondents’ occupation, 54.9% of the adults were employees, 29.9% were housewives, and 8.1% were unemployed. Also, 7% were students. The result shows the knowledge of adults in Galkio IDPs indicates two-thirds (67%) know and have information about TB, while one-third (33%) don’t have information about TB. Regarding attitude, most adults in IDPs, 70%, have a good attitude, while 30% poor attitude about TB. Preventive practice 79% own good preventive practices, and 21% own poor preventive practices.
Based on the findings of the present study, it could be concluded that: about two-thirds (67%) of studied adults had good knowledge scores, and one-third of the studied (33%) had poor knowledge scores toward tuberculosis. More than two-thirds of studied adults, 70%, had a good attitude score, and less than one-third (30%) had a poor attitude.
