ABSTRACT

Anemia is a major public health problem in many countries around the world, especially in SubSaharan Africa, with considerable consequences for the health of pregnant women. In Cameroon, among all the range of strategies to combat maternal morbidity and mortality; Iron supplementation is regaining its place as one of the main strategies for controlling and preventing anemia during pregnancy. But it is clear that during the appointments or visits of these women in the FOSA, better in the prenatal consultation room, there is always poor compliance with folic
acid supplementation, more precisely at the CSI of Mayo plata. The study is quantitative with a descriptive aim. The target population is made up of pregnant women from the CSI of Mayo Plata aged between 15-49 years. Depeteau’s table was used to determine the sample size based on the
total population of women of childbearing age in the Mayo Plata health area. For data collection, a questionnaire was administered to the pregnant women who came for CPN to the CSI of Mayo Plata. The data were collected and then transferred to Excel version 2010 software for analysis. The study was carried out on 85 pregnant women, almost half of whom, or 35%, were aged between 19 and 25; more than 68% have a relatively low level of education (primary and Koranic) and therefore more than 60% of these women with relatively low education (Quranic and primary) have poor FAF compliance. More than half, or 50.59%, are housewives. In terms of knowledge of the consequences linked to non-compliance with FAF, 74.11% or 63 say they are unaware that they exist. Almost all, 97.65% of respondents say they have already noticed at least once that FAF is out of stock in the health facility. Only 14.12% of respondents say that health personnel give educational talks daily. The determinants or factors associated with noncompliance with iron folic acid supplementation among pregnant women at the CSI of Mayo Plata are sociodemographic, economic, cultural and even institutional; that is to say linked to the health structure.
