ABSTRACT
Spirituality is a concept that is rarely discussed in so-called modern African education. The result is a “soulless” education which does not allow for a positive transformation of the individual and contributes to the degradation of their environment. Through the Native American example, this article shows the undeniable link between spirituality and education. Education about nature and the world, the application of unfailing respect for oneself, for others, and for all the components of the universe, as well as the effectiveness of rites, are modalities of essential spirituality to education among Native Americans. Speaking of transformative education, it was a Native American reality except that here, it was about positively transforming the individual so that the latter preserves the natural balance of things.
