ABSTRACT
Multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a form of tuberculosis (TB)
infection caused by bacteria that are resistant to treatment with at least one of
the most powerful first-line anti-TB medications (drugs), isoniazid and rifampin.
Some forms of TB are also resistant to second-line medications, and are called extensively drug-resistant TB. The objectives of the study is to assess multi-drug- resistant tuberculosis among adults in TB Hospital Galkaio, Puntland, Somalia, from 2020–2021. Galkaio is the capital city of the north-central Mudug region of Somalia.Galkaio is divided into two according to their state of government. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was conducted to assess the prevalence of multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis in adult people at Galkayo. The study targets selected MDR-TB adult people at Galkayo Hospital and the community in general, and the sample size of this study was 64 from different target areas. The research method used was descriptive cross-sectional, which was the appropriate method for the research. In terms of cost effectiveness and time constraints, it is the most suitable method for data collection. Questionnaires were employed in the investigation. Both primary and secondary data were used in the investigation. Conclusion and recommendation, This study underscores the problem of tuberculosis and is great importance in helping government facilities, health centers, and policymakers. This study will have great benefits for many different parts of the community in different ways. This study is providing a priority to health workers as well as hospitals to find the facts about the prevalence of drug resistance to manage.
