ABSTRACT

The study is designed to analyse how the existing system and legal framework influence health care waste management in Kumba health district. Despite much effort by the government of Cameroon on clinical waste management, health units in Kumba health district seem to be lagging behind. Research findings and recommendations are likely to help the policy makers, and the health units to improve on the legal framework of waste management. The study was aimed at assessing: how the existing system and legal framework influence health care waste management. The systems management Theory was adopted to understand the operations of clinical waste management. The descriptive survey method was used as for data collection The research used questionnaires consisting of both close- ended and open- ended questions. There was the use of primary data and the data collected was qualitatively analysed. The data analysed was presented using tables accompanied by appropriate
descriptions/explanations. The study concluded that the existing system and legal framework influence health care waste management in Kumba health district. The study recommends that: clinical waste management implementation should be emphasized in order to improve on performance of clinical waste management, the existing system and legal framework should be improved upon so as to enhance the performance of clinical waste management.
